When you wish upon a star…

kjijil

So here it is, another Monday has come around and it’s time for me to get cracking on another topic to write about. Having just returned from the Happiest Place on Earth a few days ago, I feel it’s only appropriate to incorporate some of that childlike imagination that I was able to tap into while I was away and apply it to all things Disney with interior design! My absolute favorite type of interior design would have to be children’s rooms. I love that you can just let your imagination completely go and come up with something completely out there without actually being questioned for your choices! I’ve scoped out some of the most wackiest yet utterly cool Disney themed bedrooms for your viewing pleasure so enjoy!

Inspired after Queen Elsa from Frozen!

Also inspired by Frozen, this hotel in Quebec City named Hôtel de Glace unveiled a new suite they designed after this Disney movie where everything is completely made out of ice and snow! Don’t forget to bring a parka!

Looking at these pictures, I can’t help but get The Little Mermaid’s “Under the Sea” out of my head! The giant clam shaped headboard in both of these rooms completely epitomizes the feel of actually living below the surface and would be fit for any mermaid!

While you’re already taking a swim in the ocean, you might as well come over and say hi to Nemo, Dory, and Crush!

Now let’s get back on land for a moment and follow me down the rabbit hole to check out some of these rooms that are styled after one of my favorite Disney movies, Alice in Wonderland!

Before I sign off, I have one last Disney bedroom to showcase which might just be one of my favorite movies, but alas, I don’t think I could persuade my fiance to redo our bedroom to look like this…

Well, it’s been a real slice finding these amazing Disney rooms to share with all of you lovely folks but I hear reality TV calling my name now (don’t you dare judge me) so I must be off, and as I always say (as of, well…three posts ago..)

Meet storage, your new best friend

If you’re anything like me, you like stuff. Everyone has a weakness, and for me, it’s clothes. I might even refer to it as my Achilles’ heel because there are days when I know I shouldn’t purchase that dress or those pair of jeans but just can’t seem to help it. Now, whether you have a vast amount of clothing you own or an impressive collection of books, you know you need to have storage to house it all. If you’re overwhelmed with all of your stuff and need a point in the right direction to get better organized, have no fear, I’ve scoped out some great ideas to get you started!

This setup is a great example of how to organize a smaller closet with room to spare on the back of the door for your other stuff, such as your craft supplies, etc.

If you don’t have a large closet to store your favorite outfits, a separate wardrobe unit is your next best bet! This one for example has separate shelving to put decorative boxes and pull out drawers to help de-clutter your bedroom.

A cheap and easy way to spruce up your linen closet is to take small storage bins for all of your essential beauty needs and customize them with a little bit of yarn and glue. Very cute!

For the bedroom, another great idea to hide away all of your precious stuff is to store it under your bed in these functional bed frames.

Modern versus traditional storage beds:

A How to Guide to Designing with Color

Modern-Home-Library-with-Unique-Bookshelves-Design-by-B-B-Italia-unique

http://www.home-designing.com/2009/08/home-library-design

Let’s just start by saying that I’m quite a newbie when it comes to this whole blogging thing, so please bear with me! I wanted my first topic to be something that I’m always interested in when it comes to design which is color. The quickest way to spruce up a stale outdated space is to add pops of fresh color for an added interest. A lot of people when it comes to redesigning their space are unsure where to begin or how to properly introduce color into their design. If you’re looking for something not too over the top, always keep it simple. A few throw pillows in a bright hue collaborating with the same hue in other things such as table lamps or maybe a rug is a quick way to freshen up your space. pop-of-green

http://www.mydesignchic.com/category/coffee-tables/

In this design you can see the same green being played up in many different ways but all working nicely together. Even though there are quite a few different patterns found in the accent chairs and the throw pillows, because the green hues that are found in each are on the same level it visually works.

bold-shelving

http://marbleandkate.com/2013/02/15/scattered-pink-and-red/

Unlike the last image, this design incorporates a few different colors such as bold oranges and fuschia pinks. These hues and vibrancy all lie next to each other on the color wheel (which I’ll get into more below) making the bright colors in this space interesting yet aesthetically pleasing to look at.

Sophisticated-Complementary-Color-Schemes3

http://betterdecoratingbible.com/tag/color-blocking/

This last example (though quite a bit more eccentric than the last two rooms) has a broad range of color mixes such as bright greens, purples, and oranges. I’m sure the thought of putting these three colors together in a room would make most think “are you nuts?!” but after looking at how they actually complement one another, it’s not so crazy after all! This color scheme would be referred to as a Triad Complementary Color Scheme meaning an equilateral triangle on the color wheel where three colors comprised of a triad scheme are spaced out equally and are then balanced equally.

ColorWheel1http://www.okwall.com/wallpaper/19439-split-analogous-color-scheme.html

The first principle rule learned in interior styling is the color wheel as you can see above. You can visually see which colors work best with one another but the possibilities are endless once you get the hang of it!

To conclude my first blog ever (eek!), I’ll end it on this note:
